Ravi Of VIXX Apologises: The VIXX member has apologised to girl group Red Velvet for the explicit lyrics in a song from his new album ROSES. He has said that he will be taking the number down from the streaming platforms.
On June 3, Ravi released his new album called ROSES. The album also includes a song titled RED VELVET which caused discomfort to many because of the sexualised lyrics. Netizens claimed that the lyrics could be directed to the South Korean girl group Red Velvet.
The lyrics include references to Red Velvet’s song titles. The lyrics also have parts in which there is an alleged wordplay with the names of the girl group’s members. His song has not been well received by fans.
The VIXX member released a statement of apology on June 4. In his statement, Ravi apologised to the agency, staff, and members of Red Velvet and also the fans. He also mentioned that he directly apologised to Red Velvet’s agency, SM Entertainment through a phone call.
“I am reflecting on myself for being careless about this incident not just as Ravi but also as someone in charge of the label GROOVL1N. To my shame, I did not realize myself while working on the production that the content of the lyrics could cause discomfort to many people,” the singer stated.
Ravi also said that he decided to remove the song from music sites after the controversy. “It could take some time, but I will have it resolved as soon as possible,” he said. The artist also promised fans that he will be more careful in his works in the future.
Ravi Red Velvet Sexual Lyrics: What Angered The Fans?
Ravi’s lyric in the track RED VELVET had a lot of alleged wordplay. For example, the song had the words “sooyoung haneun'' which translates to swimming but also includes Joy’s name, which is Park Soo Young. And “yeri hagien” translates to sharp but also includes member Yeri's name.
Lyrics like “I take a bite out of red velvet / I can’t hold it back anymore, stop testing me” and “Round and round we go / DUMB DUMB DUMB / DUMB DUMB DUMB” are also references to Red Velvet’s s songs Dumb Dumb and Russian Roulette.
How Did Fans React To Ravi’s Apology?
While Ravi’s fans defended the artist and said that people were too keen on stirring dramas out of anything, others did not think it was as simple as that. Many believed that Ravi’s “apology” to Red Velvet could easily be issued by his publicist.
One user wrote, “I seriously hear in his song and subsequent lies the kinds of abusive bullsh*t that angry, possessive exes say as they stalk, gaslight, and terrorize former lovers”. “The song was weird and unnecessary and honestly I don’t know why he didn’t expect this kind of response,” another user wrote.
