Yash Raj Films (YRF) has officially announced the third installment of Rani Mukerji’s Mardaani series, celebrating the film’s 10th anniversary. The series, which stars Rani Mukerji as the fearless cop Shivani Shivaji Roy, has already achieved significant success with its previous two films.
Is Mardaani 3 On The Horizon As The Franchise Celebrates Its 10th Anniversary?
The Mardaani series has become a hallmark in Indian cinema, with Rani Mukerji’s portrayal of Shivani Shivaji Roy redefining the role of women in traditionally male-dominated professions. As a courageous and relentless officer, Shivani challenges gender norms, standing as a powerful symbol of strength and integrity. Her dedication to justice and bravery in the face of danger have made her an iconic character, representing the resilience and power of women in authority.
YRF marked this milestone by sharing a post on their official Instagram account: “10 years of #Mardaani, and the next chapter awaits. Celebrating the feisty, daredevil cop #ShivaniShivajiRoy and the spirit of #Mardaani today. Thank you for a decade of love and appreciation for our beloved franchise. We are inspired again, thanks to you. #RaniMukerji #10YearsOfMardaani.”
The first Mardaani film, released in 2014, was followed by a successful sequel in 2019, both receiving critical acclaim and box office success. In 2023, Rani Mukerji confirmed her return for ‘Mardaani 3’. Expressing her excitement, she shared, “I’m thrilled to see how Mardaani 3 shapes up. I’m keeping my fingers crossed because I would love to step back into the shoes of Shivani Shivaji Roy.”
Rani also emphasised the importance of a strong script for the next film, stating, "I will be very happy and excited if the Mardaani 3 script is something truly compelling. As an actor, I believe in making a film only when the story is powerful and has a meaningful impact."
Reflecting on her experience with the sequel, Rani admitted, "When I did Mardaani 2, I was quite nervous because I had never done a sequel before. I wondered if I could reprise a character I had already left behind. But to my surprise, I enjoyed it immensely. Now, having experienced it, I’m eager to reprise the role once again in Mardaani 3."
On the professional front, Rani Mukerji was last seen in Mrs. Chatterjee vs. Norway.
