A Mumbai resident has filed a complaint against Ranbir Kapoor and his family after a Christmas video went viral, allegedly offending religious sentiments. The complaint accuses the Kapoor family of disrespecting Hindu deities by incorporating liquor into a cake and offering it to fire during the celebration, accompanied by religious chants. Despite the complaint, no First Information Report (FIR) has been registered, although the complainant requested action under various sections of the Indian Penal Code.
According to the complainant, Sanjay Tiwari, the video depicted Ranbir Kapoor pouring liquor on a cake, igniting it, and chanting "Jai Mata Di." According to him, this act is deemed disrespectful in Hinduism, where the fire gods are usually invoked before other deities. The complaint argues that the Kapoor family's use of intoxicants during a celebration of another religion and the recitation of sacred phrases caused religious sentiments to be hurt.

The filed complaint seeks to initiate an FIR against Kapoor under several sections of the Indian Penal Code, namely 295 A, 298, 500, and 34. Section 295 A pertains to deliberate and malicious actions intended to outrage religious feelings of any class by insulting its religion or religious beliefs. Section 298 involves uttering words or actions with the deliberate intent to wound religious sentiments. Section 500 relates to defamation, while section 34 encompasses acts performed by several individuals in furtherance of common intention.
