In the most recent episode of Koffee With Karan 8, Alia Bhatt addressed the internet's characterisation of her husband, Ranbir Kapoor, as 'toxic' or a ‘red flag'.

She explained to Karan Johar that her way of speaking candidly often leads to misunderstandings, particularly when discussing personal anecdotes. Bhatt mentioned instances where her remarks were taken out of context, leading to articles labelling Kapoor as a 'toxic man,' which she found unjustified given his actual nature.

My team told me ‘ye kuch out of hand jaara hai’. I was like, okay theek hai jaane do. Then I realise that there were serious articles written about how he was a toxic man, and I thought, ‘are we serious?’ There are many issues in the world to give more attention to.

She expressed concern over the boundaries being crossed in such discussions but acknowledged the audience's right to their opinions.

The Gangubai Kathiawadi actor revealed that her current husband, who was her boyfriend at the time, would ask that she remove her lipstick because he preferred her natural lip colour. In a fan interaction, Kapoor, who is gearing up for his upcoming release Animal, discussed the issue of facing criticism on social media.

Kapoor said that he doesn’t have the need to deal with it as he's not on social media, which he thinks is a "great thing". He added, "But I feel negativity is very important, especially if you are an artist, and if you have some work out there, I think both need to exist because then that creates a balance."

He pointed out that, at times, actors encounter various writings and opinions about them that may not necessarily be accurate. The actor suggested taking these with a grain of salt, as the image shaped by their movies, the roles they portray, or the media isn't something they possess.

He elaborated by stating, "It’s owned by the public, it’s owned by people who like my work or dislike my work and they are allowed to say anything about me as long as they give my work a chance you know as long as I can prove to them as an actor and that has always been my focus - to act."

In reference to news articles written about him, he addressed the situation by saying that he had recently come across an article discussing the concept of toxicity, along with a reference to a statement he had made. He expressed his understanding of the perspective presented in the article and stated that he aligns himself with those who are actively fighting against toxic masculinity.

He added that if they choose to use him as a symbol for this cause, he's fine with it because he believes their struggle is more significant than his personal sentiments regarding their opinions on his statement. He emphasised his focus on the broader context of the issue.
