The pre-nuptial bash of Anant Ambani and Radhika Merchant was attended by global icons, pop stars, business tycoons and celebrities worldwide. The three-day celebrations were hosted by the Ambani festival in Jamnagar. The pre-wedding bash was attended by many legendary cinema artists such as Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Amitabh Bachchan, Rajnikanth, Shah Rukh Khan, and many more.
Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan is facing criticism online for his treatment of South Indian actor Ram Charan at a recent pre-wedding event for industrialist Anant Ambani and Radhika Merchant. The incident has sparked debate and accusations of disrespect towards Charan.
Three Khans On Pre-Wedding Ambani Bash
As many celebrities graced the stage to perform for the soon-to-be-wedded couple, the world witnessed all three Khans of the industry, Shah Rukh Khan, Salman Khan, and Aamir Khan performing together on the stage after years which was an iconic moment for fans.
On day two of the grandeur celebrations, the trio of Khans took the stage on fire by trying to perform the hook step of the Oscar-winning song Naatu Naatu from Ram Charan's and Jr NTR's film RRR. Amidst the performance, at one point SRK called Ram Charan, the real star of the song to dance with them on the stage.
Shah Rukh Khan's 'Disrespectful' Remarks
As the three-day pre-wedding event ended on Monday, superstar Shah Rukh Khan found himself in controversy which stemmed from social media posts by Ram Charan's makeup artist, Zeba Hassan.
Ram Charan was invited by SRK on stage to perform with them as they were grooving to his song. In a video that was posted by Pinkvilla, SRK can be seen jokingly speaking in gibberish Telugu and calling Ram Charan 'Idli' on stage under which Hassan commented: "I’m a huge SRK fan, but I really disliked the way he called Ram Charan on stage."
Zeba Hassan's Instagram Stories
Zeba Hassan who found SRK's remark towards Ram Charan 'disrespectful' claimed she 'walked out' from the Ambani bash right after hearing SRK's racist remark.
She took to her Instagram story, expressing her disappointment with Shah Rukh Khan's behaviour. According to Hassan, Khan allegedly referred to Charan as "Bhend idly vada" (meaning "flat idli and vada") while inviting him on stage. Hassan further stated, "I walked out after this. So disrespectful towards a star like Ram Charan."
Adding further, Hassan also penned down the words to voice for all the make-up artists who aren't Mumbai/Delhi based and alleged that the South Indian stars and artists are not appreciated and given the respect they deserve.
Netizens Displeased By Shah Rukh Khan's Remark:
While the exact context and intent behind Khan's remarks remain unclear, Hassan's accusations have ignited a firestorm on social media. Many netizens have slammed Khan, accusing him of being disrespectful and even racist towards Charan and South Indian culture. Some have pointed out that Khan's alleged comment could be interpreted as 'casual racism', while others view it as dismissive, inappropriate and stereotypical against South Indians.
Shahrukh Khan is being insensitive by referring to Ram Charan as "idli," which could be perceived as a racial stereotype against South Indians. SHAME ON YOU @iamsrk#RamCharan pic.twitter.com/kUFRd6fTUj
