Raj Kundra porn case investigation: Mumbai Police have reportedly formed a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to probe the case of porn production and distribution in which British-Indian businessman Raj Kundra is arrested.
Reports suggest senior officers will join the case, looking into the First Information Reports (FIRs) filed and developments so far. Kundra, the husband of Bollywood star Shilpa Shetty, was arrested July 19 in the illegal content case and police named him the "key conspirator." More here.
Kundra's bail hearing was deferred to August 20 on orders of a sessions court earlier this week. Authorities noted he was "destroying evidence" of chats on his phone mid-police probe in the case.
Kundra, through his lawyers, previously appealed against his "illegal" arrest.
The case of an alleged porn racket unfolding in Maharashtra was busted this year in February at Madh Island, when actor Gehana Vasisth and others were arrested.
Developments In Raj Kundra Porn Case Investigation: Senior Officers To Join?
Kundra and his associate Ryan Thorpe's names have come up in connection to UK-based firm Kenrin, reportedly the business setup behind Hotshots, the app that was being used to publish the adult content. Kundra claims his association with Kenrin ended years ago, however, police suspect the 45-year-old was involved in operations from his Mumbai office of Viaan Industries. "WhatsApp conversations, accounting sheets, e-mail and pornographic clips" indicating his direct role in the case have been found, police said.
As per reports, Kundra and others behind the content earned as much as five lakh rupees from each video platformed on Hotshots. Owing to certain financial irregularities, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) is reportedly also looking to file a bigger case against him. Follow developments here.
Shetty's "active" role in the porn production case, meanwhile, has not been found, investigating authorities said. The actor is however accused in a separate case of financial fraud connected to a wellness centre branch with FIRs filed in Uttar Pradesh. Read here.
