Disha Parmar sindoor trolling: Television star Disha Parmar recently tied the knot with fellow actor Rahul Vaidya. And not even a month into their marriage, she is being dictated by trolls on what a 'good, virtuous' married woman's appearance must look like.
After the 28-year-old posted Instagram photos of herself Monday in a pink saree, fans and critics swooped in questioning why she hadn't applied sindoor (vermillion) on her head - a Hindu custom several married women follow.
"Also to all the people who feel it's their right to litter my comments with negativity because am not wearing sindoor.. it’s my choice!" Parmar hit back at them in the comments section.
"I wear it when I want to wear it.. am okay with it, my husband is okay with it, my family is okay with it! Why are you so triggered?" she added.
Disha Parmar Sindoor Trolling: A Continuing Trend Online
This is not the first instance netizens have pointed out the absence of sindoor on Parmar. Last week, the couple together hosted a live session on their Instagram handle, in which comments asking why Parmar was without sindoor and her wedding ring floated in.
Vaidya, of Bigg Boss and Indian Idol fame, went on to ask his wife why she hadn't applied sindoor that day, to which she said he was supposed to apply it. In what was assumably a mock-argument, Vaidya tells Parmar, "Sindoor pati ki nishani hoti hai par Disha... Kal se roz sindoor lagana."
He adds then that he has no issues with his wife not wearing a sindoor. Know more on the couple's relationship here.
Female actors and other public figures have been subjected to similar scrutiny in the past on social media. A photo of Bollywood star Anushka Sharma was morphed last year when she was pregnant to show her with sindoor. Meanwhile, politician Nusrat Jahan was faced with such criticism coupled with arguments about her religion, when she used to apply sindoor when formerly married to businessman Nikhil Jain.
