Priyanka Chopra BAFTA Debut: Priyanka Chopra starrer White Tiger has been nominated for Best Screenplay at the British Academy of Film and Television (BAFTA) awards 2021.
The film's lead actor Adarsh Gaurav was also nominated in the best actor category.
The list of nominations was released on Tuesday and it was in contrast to the nominations released last year. Many had accused BAFTA of underrepresentation of non-white people. Priyanka Chopra while expressing her joy over the nominations took to Instagram to share the big news. She wrote, "What a proud moment for Indian talent with 2 BAFTA nominations for an ALL INDIAN STAR CAST!!". Chopra then tagged Adarsh Gaurav and wrote" Escatic for you @gauravadarsh, you are so deserving of this recognition". She congratulated another member of her team Rahim Bahrani.
" I feel extremely proud to have been an executive producer on this movie! let's get it!!" she added.
Along with White Tiger other films in the race to win Best Adapted Screenplay Award The Dig, The Father, The Mauritanian and Nomadland. This year, BAFTA will be held in two separate ceremonies. The first one will be held on April 10 during which the "crafts" people who work in the background will be awarded, while the second event will take place on April 11 during which main category winners will be awarded.
According to reports BAFTA committee took in 500 new members in its team to ensure that more communities are recognised, unlike last year. In the best director's category, four women were nominated. Chloe Zhao's Nomadland became one of the leading films with several nominations. Read more here.
