Marilia Mendonca dead in a plane crash: Hours after sharing a video on social media about boarding a private plane, popular Brazilian singer Marilia Mendonca died in a crash, in Minas Gerais. The singer who rose to fame for her Brazilian country music style was travelling along with her manager and an aide in a small aeroplane.
According to the press office statement, the 26-year-old singer along with her producer Henrique Ribeiro, her uncle Abicieli Silveria Dias Filho, pilot and co-pilot of the plane were killed in the crash.
Hours before the death, the singer had posted on her Instagram feed a video of boarding the flight, eating and her workout videos combined into a reel on November 5, yesterday.
Marilia Mendonca had won the 2019 Latin Grammy for an album, Em Todos Os Cantos and is known for her sertanejo style of music.
According to media reports, the singer, known as The Queen Of Suffering, was heading to Caratinga from Goiania for a concert which was scheduled later yesterday.
Her fans found power in her lyrics which talked about women rejecting "bad and abusive" relationships while narrating the stories of flawed characters. Marilia Mendonca was not just a celebrated musician but also a popular social media personality. Her Twitter account has a following of 7.8 million, her YouTube has 22 million subscribers and her Instagram account has over 38 million followers.
The cause for the crash is still under investigation but as per the statement of Cemig, a state-run power company, the aeroplane allegedly collided with an electric distribution line owned by the company before it hit the ground.
Many celebrities and politicians reacted to the sudden death of Mendonca. Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro too took to Twitter, writing that the country is shocked by the news of the singer's death and that she was one of the greatest artists of her generation.

Last year, when entire Brazil was under lockdown due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Mendonca's digital concert drew a world record on YouTube., with 3.3 million viewers.
