Poonam Pandey and her ex husband Sam Bombay are now facing the heat as they find themselves embroiled in a defamation lawsuit amounting to Rs 100 crore after staging a death hoax purportedly to "raise awareness for cervical cancer." The saga began when, on February 2, a shocking post appeared on Pandey's official Instagram page announcing her demise due to cervical cancer. The news was seemingly confirmed by Pandey's manager, Nikita, who stated that the actor-model had passed away at her home in Uttar Pradesh.
However, just a day later, Pandey resurfaced with a video on social media, revealing that she was alive and well. She admitted to fabricating the entire ordeal in an attempt to "empower one another with critical awareness" of cervical cancer. Nevertheless, the stunt drew widespread criticism, with many condemning Pandey for exploiting a serious illness for the sake of publicity.
In response to the controversy, the All Indian Cine Workers Association demanded legal action against Pandey. The agency responsible for the campaign, Schbang, also issued a public apology on social media. Despite these attempts at damage control, the repercussions continued as Pandey found herself slapped with a defamation lawsuit.

According to a report in Times of India, Faizan Ansari, a Mumbai resident, filed the lawsuit with the Kanpur Police Commissioner. Ansari accused Pandey and Sam Bombay of orchestrating a "false conspiracy of death" and trivialising serious illnesses like cancer for personal gain. He asserted that their actions not only betrayed the trust of millions but also tarnished the reputation of the Bollywood community.
The FIR filed by Ansari calls for swift action against Pandey and Sam Bombay, urging the Kanpur Police Commissioner to issue arrest warrants and ensure their appearance before the Kanpur Court to address the defamation charges.
Poonam Pandey and Sam Bombay tied the knot in September 2020 but later ended their relationship. Pandey had previously alleged facing domestic abuse from Bombay, adding another layer of complexity to the ongoing legal battle.
