The release date of Ponniyin Selvan 2, the magnum opus of director Mani Ratnam has been announced by Lyca Production. PS-1 was 2022's one of the most anticipated films and was hugely celebrated and praised.
After a long wait, the makers of Ponniyin Selvan, Lyca Production, announced the release date of the film's sequel on their Twitter handle on Wednesday. The release date, along with a short clip, has been revealed by the production house.
Ponniyin Selvan 2 Updates
The short video shared along with the release date of the film opens with an enraged Adhitha Karikalan (Vikram) sitting in front of Kali's statue, followed by a glance at Arulmozhi Varman (Jayam Ravi) walking amidst many monks. Vanthiyathevan (Karthi) is shown sitting on a tree, and the clip ends with a peek at Nandhini (Aishwarya Rai Bachan) sitting in front of a mirror with a sword in her hand. Fans seem to be a little saddened that Kundhavai (Trisha Krishnan), another pivotal character, is missing from the short video.
The prequel Ponniyin Selvan 1, which was released on September 30, 2022, ended with a cliffhanger. The climax showed Arulmozhi Varman and Vanthiyathevan drowning in the sea after a class with the Pandyas. The sequel will reveal how Arulmozhi Varman and Vandthiyathevan are saved and the mystery behind Nandhini.
Ponniyin Selvan is an epic period drama based on writer Kalki Krishnamoorthy's 1995 novel of the same name. The novel narrates a fictionalised story of the glorious Tamil king Raja Raja Cholan and how he ascends the throne amidst several conspiracies.
The first part of the film revolved around the two Chola heirs, Aditha Karikalan and Arulmozhi Varman, and the conspiracy that is being made to kill them. The prequel was commercially successful and critically acclaimed.
