On Wednesday, Netflix announced that it is all set to release its first Telugu original film Pitta Kathalu, a four-part anthology. It will be co-directed by Tharun Bhascker, BV Nandini Reddy, Nag Ashwin, and Sankalp Reddy. The film will debut on February 19, 2021, on the streaming platform.
The title of the film, Pitta Kathalu means short stories in Telugu. In a statement released by Netflix, the platform revealed that the film is a chronicle of four distinctly bold women.
The teaser convinces of an intriguing film while promising their viewers to introduce them to the plight of four women as they struggle to untangle their complicated relationships. These roles are played by Eesha Rebba, Lakshmi Manchu, Amala Paul, and Shruti Haasan.

National Film Award-winning director Tharun Bhascker said, “Indian regional content is ready to shine at a global stage with Pitta Kathalu. This anthology that not only highlights the beautiful landscape of the country but also presents women-led stories will leave the audience touched.” Bhascker also said that this film will be memorable for him as he will be working together with actors and directors who are incredibly talented.
While Director Sankalp Reddy is confident that the film will travel to a million viewers globally, Director Nag Ashwin said that he has tried to push the boundaries of storytelling. Adding to his statement, Ashwin says, “I hope this four-parted anthology of four different and unique worlds connect with people not only in Telugu speaking states but across the world.”
Meanwhile, Director BV Nandini Reddy expressed her gratitude for collaborating with Netflix and the accomplished cast of Pitta Kathulu as a rewarding experience. “Working with directors who are extremely talented and gifted has helped us to travel the paths of four different stories of women who have their unique take on relationships,” she said as the team hopes for a massive reach of the film that Netflix provides.
