"If I don't take charge of my own life, others will always make decisions for me," Malhotra can be heard saying in the trailer.
Previously released teaser suggested that the film revolves around a typical Indian middle-class family navigating a crisis. Malhotra plays the role of the recent widow who can’t shed a tear after the untimely death of her husband, Astik. She struggles to mourn the death of her husband and her family worries about her reaction. As events unfold, Sandhya sets onto a path of self-discovery.
Earlier, speaking about the movie and her character, Malhotra said in a statement, “So thrilled to announce this film which is very close to my heart on my special day. I essay the role of Sandhya, a character very different from what I have previously portrayed on-screen. My Pagglait journey was Pagglait indeed, and I can’t wait for the world to witness this unique story very soon.”
According to producer Guneet Monga, Pagglait will have at least one family member for everyone to relate with. She further added, "Pagglait is rooted in deep family ethos and captures Sandhya's internal journey. I'm in awe of the incredible work of Umesh Bist, Arijit Singh and each actor who has lent depth to their characters in this film. Humbled to have empowering partners in Balaji and Netflix."
