Nomadland To Release In India: Director Chloé Zhao's Oscar-nominated film Nomadland will be releasing in India on 2nd April 2021. The film will be released at a time when cinemas around the globe are still not seeing the desired footfall due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The film has already won six Academy Award nominations including in the Best Director and Best Picture categories. Besides this, the film managed to bag many awards at the BAFTA and the Golden Globe awards. Chloé Zhao released a statement after her film was nominated for the Oscars. "Thank you so much to my Academy peers for recognizing this film that is very close to my heart," she said. The film had even premiered at the Venice Film Festival in September 2020, and won the People's Choice Award at the Toronto International Film Festival.

Nomadland stars Frances McDormand and real-life nomads Linda May, Swankie and Bob Wells. It tells us the story of a woman who decides to live as a modern-day nomad. "Following the economic collapse of a company town in rural Nevada, Fern (McDormand) packs her van and sets off on the road exploring a life outside of conventional society as a modern-day nomad," reads the official synopsis of the film.
Nomadland might not release in Zhao's home country
The film is facing a lot of backlash in Chloé Zhao's home country China. This is because Zhao had described China as "a place where there are lies everywhere" in a 2013 interview. Very soon, hashtags such as “#NomadlandReleaseDate” disappeared from China's social media platform Weibo.
