Cadbury cricket ad: Confectionary brand Cadbury has launched a new version of its famous cricket ad from the 90s and it seems to be an instant hit with social media users. Twitter thinks that the new ad was "long overdue" and offers a sweet take on an old hit. The ad not only breaks gender norms it has a feel good value to it.
In the hit ad from nearly three decades ago we see a cricket match unfold, with the batsman on crease just a run away from his century. As the batsman hits the ball, the viewers think he will be caught on the boundary, but to everyone's surprise, he manages to score a six. His delighted girlfriend then sneaks past the guards and performs her now-famous jig as she bites into the chocolate. The tables have turned in the new ad and how. This time around a women's cricket match takes the centre stage and the celebratory dance is performed by a guy for the batswoman. Every frame of the ad remains the same, the new advertisement even features the old iconic jingle "Kuch Khaas Hai".

Conceptualised by Oglivy for Mondelez, the parent company of Cadbury, the ad has received a lot of warmth on social media. Speaking about how it was conceived, senior director – marketing of Mondelez India, Anil Viswanathan in a statement said it was a young creative in Ogilvy who came up with the idea and they instantly loved it. "Clearly that ad was iconic, it created a trend and it was culture leading at that point in time and we feel that this representation also has the potential to be culture leading,” he said, further adding that the commercial is topical and celebrates women achievers in sports and women achievers in life.
Viswanathan also said, “From acing in the corporate world to winning Olympic medals, women are at the forefront of creating new milestones, every single day and our film is an ode to each one of them." He added, "The film also lands the message of how taking small yet significant steps to acknowledge the achievements of women would make the world a better place to live in”.
"Brilliant. Reinventing a 20 year old idea. Cadbury Dairy Milk wishes #GoodLuckGirls to all those hitting it out of the park," tweeted a user. "What a beauty! So glad they changed the theme and it looks wonderful," another tweet read.
Cricketer Ravichandran Ashwin to appreciated the advertisement for paying an ode to women cricketers, writing, "Wow !! Well played Cadbury’s. So happy that my daughters will grow up watching this."

With this role reversal ad we can see how much women have progressed in the Indian society whilst the emotions of success and victory still remain the same.https://t.co/BqZEjegpgA#chocolates #advertising #adcampaigns #adindia #cadbury pic.twitter.com/jhJC08jusA
The new Cadbury's dairy milk ad manages to be nostalgic and modern. Clever idea. Reinvent the wheel, but only slightly. https://t.co/nMt1mQwF2n
