Meet Nehha Pendse As Anita Bhabi Of Bhabi Ji Ghar Par Hain

Actor Nehha Pendse is all set to hit the TV screens in her new role as Anita Bhabi in popular show Bhabiji Ghar Par Hain. Pendse will be replacing Saumya Tandon who was earlier essaying the role of Anita Bhabi in the show. After much wait and anticipation, viewers will finally see Nehha Pendse in the shoes of Anita Bhabi from today.

Who is Nehha Pendse?

Nehha Pendse began her acting career in TV serials through Captain Hook, Ekta Kapoor’s show that aired in 1995. And Pendse’s debut in films was a child artist in the 1999 film Pyar Koi Khel Nhi Hai. Moreover, she is also known for her role of Chaurangi in the blockbuster movie Devdas. Recently, she appeared in the role of Kavya Godbole in Abhishek Sharma’s movie Suraj Pe Mangal Bhari which stared known actors like Daljit Dosanjh, Manoj Vajpayee and Fatima Sana Sheikh.

In a new interview, Pendse revealed her excitement to be a part of Bhabiji Ghar Pr Hain. She said, "I am very excited and there’s also a bit of nervousness. There’s a lot of anticipation, and the expectations are very high. People want to figure out how I play Anita, so there is also a slight resistance. I am really looking forward to what people have to say."

What is her role?

Pendse will be essaying the role of Anita Bhabi, who is a strong woman character of the show known for her badass replies to sexism and unsuccessful attempts of her neighbour to woo her. Anita Bhabi is an educated woman who runs a grooming class and is the bread-earner of the house. While her husband, Vibhuti Narayan Mishra (played by Aasif Sheikh) is a house-husband who does all the cooking and cleaning at the house.

However, viewers are used to watching Saumya Tandon as Anita Bhabhi for more than five years. And subsequently, the pressure and criticism are high on the shoulders of Pendse.

Speaking about the pressure and criticism, Pendse said, “(Criticism) is already coming my way even when people haven’t seen my work as Anita. However, I understand that the criticism comes from an emotional space. People have been emotionally connected to Saumya, and it’s like letting a new person come in your inner group. Just like any other new relationship, this too would take some time. And I want to give that space to my audience to find that connectivity, and I know then, they will accept me wholeheartedly.”

Moreover, she also said that Anita Bhabhi’s personality is completely different from her. However, she won’t change an “already existing” character.  “I cannot do something too drastic as there is a boundary to the character. As an artist, I can only get a new perspective to the part.”

In the show, Nehha Pendse will be sharing the screen with Rohitesh Gaud, Shubhnagi Atre and Aasif Sheikh.
