Masaba Masaba 2: Neena Gupta Reveals Channel Rejected Her Pilot For Saans 2

The semi-fictional series Masaba Masaba, which is based on the lives of Neena Gupta and her designer-actor daughter Masaba Gupta, just returned with the second season on July 29 on Netflix. In one incident covered in the second season, Neena Gupta claims she produced a pilot for the possible renewal of her popular television show Saans, but the channel rejected it.

Gupta claimed she had numerous meetings with the channel roughly three to four years ago in the newly aired second season, but the second episode was withheld since they disapproved of the pilot. The actor told to PTI, "I explained what had happened to Sonam (Masaba Masaba director Sonam Nair) and the writers. I created a pilot for Saans 2 that was turned down. And the way they behaved was not very nice. I wanted to include this in the series because it is a reality that actually happened to me. "

Saans was a popular 1990s TV show. The show starred Neena Gupta as Priya, Kanwaljit Singh as Gautam, and Kavita Kapoor as Manisha as the central characters. It was a unique TV show that dealt with infidelity in relationships. Gupta was the author of the script, and also produced and directed the show. The show ran for more than 150 episodes on Star Plus.

She did the pilot for Season 2 and announced the renewal of the show in 2019. However, the show was not renewed. Later, co-stars Kanwaljit Singh and Neena Gupta appeared together in the 2021 film Sardar Ka Grandson. In the movie, she played Singh's mother.

After its release, Masaba Masaba Season 2 won accolades from viewers for tackling difficult subjects like ageism, mansplaining, and casual sexism through its characters. Gupta claimed that every character in the show, including her own, stands for a glimmer of hope. She continued, "Giving people hope is crucial in today's world."

Masaba Masaba 2 also stars Ram Kapoor as Shekhar Mirza, a former co-star, and friend of Gupta's. The actor claimed that working with Bade Achhe Lagte Hain and Kasamh Se fame Kapoor, was a lot of fun. She added,  "Ram is a very sweet man. Although you are younger than me, you worked with me, and that doesn't happen often, I thanked him and said." Masaba Masaba, series has two seasons and both are available on Netflix.
