In recent years, we have seen a shift in Marvel Cinematic Universe, with the focus now on female superheroes, not in supporting roles, but as main leads. These female superheroes have received just as much love from the audience as their male counterparts.
Over the years, we have seen Marvel Comics evolve across timelines and dimensions, as superheroes continue to fight the most dangerous intergalactic enemies- sometimes joining forces, other times tackling the crisis on their own. Many characters have also handed over the baton to others to carry forward the legacy. The latest being Dr Jane Foster who adopts the identity of Mighty Thor in the recently released film Thor: Love and Thunder. Like her male counterpart, the Mighty Thor is strong, fierce and dependable when it comes to your saving-the-world needs. And she is not alone, all of MCU's female superheroes are not only skilled fighters but also reliable and caring friends.
Here are five Marvel female superheroes from its Cinematic Universe whom we all love:
Captain Marvel
Captain Marvel aka Carol Danvers is one of the most powerful Marvel superheroes with the abilities of superhuman strength as well as flight. She is known to have served as an air force pilot, intelligence agent as well as a NASA employee before she became Captain Marvel. She was exposed to a device which rewrote her DNA while she was engaged in a battle, giving her superhuman powers. According to the film series, Captain Marvel has also fought alongside the Avengers against Thanos to save half the population of Earth from extinction. Captain Marvel will be next seen in upcoming film The Marvels set to release in 2023.
Mighty Thor
Dr Jane Foster aka the Mighty Thor is the newest addition to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. While the story of the physicist gaining superpowers is quite different in the movie from the comics, the fact that she acquires superhuman strength from Thor's hammer Mjolnir remains the same as the two fight together against Gorr, the God Butcher in Thor: Love and Thunder. However, the acquired strength does come with its cost as it drains her out of her mortal strength to fight against cancer. While her battle was short-lived in the MCU, Mighty Thor will surely be remembered for her courage and determination.
Black Widow
The coolest spy of the Marvel Universe is Natasha Romanoff aka Black Widow. While she was orphaned at a young age, she did manage to find a sister at the Russian Red Room where she was transformed into a skilled assassin and carry out morally-questionable missions. However, she did make some changes for the good while working as a spy-assassin for S.H.I.E.L.D. Soon after, she joined the Avengers to extract the Tesseract from Loki and as they say, the rest is history. The character of Black Widow/Natasha Romanoff is played by actor Scarlett Johansson on-screen. Black Widow's character met its end in Avengers: End Game, before the release of her standalone film Black Widow. However, this is MCU and we never know what it has in store for us.
Ms Marvel
Another new member of the MCU, the Pakistani-American superhero Ms Marvel aka Kamala Khan is a high-school Jersey girl who looks up to her idol Captain Marvel. While as a high-school girl she struggles to fit in among other white kids, it becomes easier for her when she discovers her superhuman powers. Ms Marvel possesses the powers of shape-shifting, which means she can transform her body according to her will and she mostly uses it to elongate her limbs or fists. She also recovers from serious injuries when she returns back to her original self. Ms Marvel was recently seen in her mini-series on Disney+ Hotstar which served as a set up to 2023 film The Marvels.

Scarlet Witch
Wanda Maximoff aka Scarlet Witch is among the most powerful MCU characters of all times. With the powers of warping reality and manipulating chaos magic, she is among the greatest magic wielders. While she was possessed by the spirit of Scarlet Witch and went on a killing spree in Doctor Strange: In The Multiverse of Madness, Wanda was able to set aside her dark desires and come to terms with the reality. While most of her childhood history remains unknown, Wanda has endured a lot of trauma during her life losing her twin brother, her husband Vision as well as her fictitious children. We can only hope Wanda finds a ray of sunshine finally.
