Mehreen Pirzada Slams Those Calling Marital Rape Sequence 'Sex Scene'

Actor Mehreen Pirzada, who recently ventured into the OTT space with the show Sultan of Delhi, criticised those who referred to a marital rape sequence in Milan Luthria's show as a 'sex scene.' On her official X account, the actor expressed her concern over such misrepresentations.

In response to the reactions surrounding her recent show, Sultan of Delhi, Mehreen Pirzada expressed her hope that her fans enjoyed watching the series. She explained that, as a professional actor, certain scripts require performing actions that may challenge one's personal morals.  However, she emphasised that she considers acting an art and a job, sometimes necessitating uncomfortable scenes as part of the story's narrative.

Mehreen Pirzada On Marital Rape Scene In Series

Furthermore, Mehreen raised concern about how the portrayal of such scenes as mere 'sex scenes' trivialises the serious issue of marital rape, which many women worldwide are currently facing. 

There was a scene in Sultan Of Delhi that depicted a brutal Marital Rape. It pains me to see that a serious issue like Marital Rape has been described by many in the media as a Sex Scene.

She urged people in the media and on social platforms to understand that they too have sisters and daughters and should empathise with the trauma women endure in such situations. In her statement, the actor also praised the professionalism of the team behind Sultan of Delhi for ensuring the comfort and modesty of the actors during the filming of these challenging scenes.

Mehreen Pirzada is among the actors who have addressed this matter. Nevertheless, several directors have previously emphasised that including intimate or bed scenes in films and shows is not merely intended for viewer arousal but to immerse them in the character's journey, experiences, and emotions. Another recent example of this perspective was seen when a Twitter user shared timestamps of such scenes from the Netflix anthology Lust Stories 2.
