As many movies are up for theatrical releases this year, two big releases of South film industry --- Shruti Hassan and Ravi Teja's Krack and Thalapathy Vijay's upcoming film, Master --- are keeping the audience beyond excited right now. Huge crowds gathered to watch Knack and book tickets for Master at theatres in Hyderabad. At the centre of this film is Malavika Mohanan who is the main lead.
The upcoming Indian Tamil-language action-thriller film is directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj, who also wrote the screenplay along with Rathna Kumar and Pon Parthiban. Malavika Mohanan is an Indian actor who has predominantly worked in Malayalam and Tamil films. She has also worked in Hindi and Kannada movies.
Here we bring you 10 things to know about the actor Malavika Mohanan:
- Malavika Mohanan was born on August 4, 1992 in Kannur, Kerala. However, she grew up in Mumbai. She is an alumnus of Wilson College, Mumbai where she completed her degree in Mass Media.
- She is the daughter of the renowned cinematographer K.U Mohanan. He has been behind the lens of superhit movies like Talaash, Raees, Jab Harry Met Sejal, Lust Stories, Andhadhun, and Maharshi.
- Malavika planned to pursue a career in cinematography just like her father. However, popular south film actor Mammootty offered her to debut in Malayalam film industry opposite his son Dulquer Salmaan in Pattam Pole.
- Henceforth, she made her debut in Mollywood in the 2013 movie directed by Alagappan. She gradually learned acting while shooting for the movie. Furthermore, she was also involved in costume designing for the film.
- After her first film, she went on and played diverse characters in her subsequent releases. In her second movie, Nirnayakam (2015) she played the role of a ballet dancer. The movie got good reviews, but a tepid commercial response by the audience.
- She has starred in various movies like Naanu Mattu Varalakshmi, where she received praise from critics for her portrayal of the titular role of Varalakshmi. She then featured in the role of a police officer in the crime thriller hit film The Great Father (2017) alongside an ensemble cast including Mammootty, Arya and Sneha.
- Malavika rose to fame in 2017 when she played the role of Tara, a poor girl from Mumbai's dhobi ghat area, in Majid Majidi's drama film Beyond the Clouds. The celebrated filmmaker selected her ahead of top actresses Deepika Padukone and Kangana Ranaut for the role. She portrayed the older sister of debutant Ishaan Khatter.
- For the portrayal of her character in Beyond the Clouds, she lost eight kilograms in fifteen days for a particular jail scene. In fact, she didn't wash her hair for several days to perfect her look of a slum dweller. The film was screened in various international film festivals and Malavika received widespread acclaim for her performance.
- She made her debut in Tamil industry in 2019 with Rajanikanth's Petta, directed by Karthik Subbaraj. The movie also featured Vijay Sethupathi, Simran, Trisha, Sasikumar, Nawazuddin Siddiqui and Megha Akash. She also made a special appearance as herself in Masaba Masaba, the biographical streaming series based on the life of Masaba Gupta.
- Other than Master, her upcoming project include Karthick Naren's Tamil movie which is under production and forthcoming Telugu movie Hero opposite Vijay Devarakonda.
