Many times women are judged upon their marital status. Even professionally successful women are asked questions about their spouse and children more often than they are asked about their work. A woman's life is often suggested to revolve but here's why marriage doesn't complete women. Five actors speak up on why marriage is not important for a woman's identity.
1. Tanishaa Mukerji
Recently, Tanishaa Mukerji was in news for freezing her eggs at 39. The actor mentioned how she was ready to do it much before. It brought her independence of thinking about relationships and motherhood in the future. Mukerji said, "More people need to go out and talk about this. It’s ok for women to not have children. That’s not the only calling in your life. It’s ok to not get married, not be in a relationship and not define yourself with a man beside you."
2. Tabu
Tabu, who is happily single, expressed the pressure she faced about getting married and said, "I don't think there is anybody who hasn't gone through pressure because of that. I would be lying if I say that there is no pressure at all. Of course, there has been."
Tabu is known for her individuality and portrayal of powerful roles. Her roles in Maachis, Kalapani, Astitva, Chandni Bar, Maqbool, Cheeni Kum, Haider, Drishyam have been worthy of many accolades.
3. Divya Dutta
Dutta opened up about her views on companionship and said that she doesn't think about getting married. But she did add, that she does think about companionship. Dutta added that she has men in her life but was yet to find the person who 'makes you feel good about yourself.'
When asked about her right type of guy, she said that there is no right or wrong type of person.
4. Sushmita Sen
Sushmita Sen has pursued single hood fearlessly and like none other in the film industry. She has two children and is dating a younger man than herself.
About motherhood as a single mom, she asks, "Why not? I am secure in my choice and in being so, I can respect and appreciate another’s choice, whatever it may be. After all, singles or doubles, we play to win."
5. Pooja Bhatt
Pooja Bhatt expressed her views about getting married again and staying single and said, "I’ve been asked by so many people why aren’t you getting married again. And I tell them that I’ve grown up from thinking ‘and they lived happily ever after’ to ‘and she lived happily ever after’."
She added, "I’ve been there, done that, tried it and recommended it to people too. But my life is not incomplete because I choose to live the way I do."
