German actor Maren Eggert has won the first gender-neutral award at the 71st Berlin International Film Festival for her role in I'm Your Man. The film festival popularly known as Berlinale is held annually in Berlin, Germany between February and March. This year's event was the first time ever that Berlinale did not gender its best performance honour.
The Silver Bear award, recognising solo talent across art and entertainment fields, went to Eggert in the best leading performance category. It is among the highest honours at Berlinale, second only to the top Golden Bear.
I'm Your Man, a comedy-drama directed by Maria Schrader made its premiere at the 2021 Berlinale. Eggert's role as Alma won wide critical acclaim. The film also starred Dan Stevens and Sandra Hüller.
