Mandira Bedi‘s husband Raj Kaushal got a heart attack on June 30 morning. He passed away before making it to the hospital. Raj Kaushal and Mandira Bedi had got married in 1999. The duo has a son named Vir and a daughter named Tara. He was only 49 years old. He directed films like Pyaar Mein Kabhi Kabhi and Anthony Kaun Hai.

Bedi was also in news for performing her husband's last rites. A lot of Hindu traditionalists highlighted the fact that a woman shouldn't have been permitted to participate in funeral rituals. There were many who were upset and criticised her for choosing to wear denim jeans with a simple white tee for the funeral. However, there were many who backed her and applauded her for defying patriarchal Hindu traditions that stop women from performing her husband's last rites. Bollywood celebrities like Mini Mathur, Sona Mohapatra and others offered support to Bedi and criticised the trolls.
