With the COVID outbreak, the cinema experience has not been the same but not worse either. Malayalam OTT releases are new to the industry but certainly not bad! Here is a list of the newest additions to the extremely short list of exclusive Malayalam OTT releases.
Lalitham Sundaram
Lalitham Sundaram is one of the Malayalam OTT releases all set to hit online platforms in March. The date has not yet been confirmed but it will be released on Disney+ Hotstar. With a fun cast which includes Manju Warrier, Biju Menon,Saiju Kurup, Sudheesh, Anu Mohan, Raghunath Paleri, Vinod Thomas, Zarina Wahab, Deepti Sati, Asha Aravind, Anjana Appukuttan, Master Aswhin Warrier and Baby Thennal Abhilash, the movie is said to a family entertainer.
Lalitham Sundaram is the directorial debut of Madhu Wariar, produced by Manju Warrier. Let’s wait and watch if this brother-sister combo worked for real! Yes, Madhu and Manju are siblings.
Alone
After almost a decade of collaboration, Shaji Kailas and Mohanlal reunite! The most interesting fact about the movie is that the shoot was completed in just 18 days. The movie has an incredible line of technical team with Abinandhan Ramanujam as the cinematographer, Don Max in charge of editing, Santhosh Raman in production design and Jakes Bejoy operating the music department.
Will Alone be another Narasimham or Natturajavu? Maybe not, maybe even better. We’ll find out!
Puzhu
Puzhu, directed by Ratheena is the first ever movie where the father and son unite! The movie is produced by Dulquer Salmaan’s Wayfarer Films. This is not the only ‘first’ about Puzhu. Parvathy and Mammootty are acting together for the first time. Mammootty launches a woman director through Puzhu for the first time ever!
A short teaser trailer of the movie has been released but the premise of the movie cannot be made out from the teaser alone. But one thing is for sure, the teaser does not disappoint!
Eesho
Eesho, starring Jayasurya as the lead with Jaffer Idukki and Namita Pramod in other important roles, had recently got an U certification and is all set to be released on OTT.
The movie initially went through some controversies regarding the title of the movie as it hurt the feelings of certain people and communities. Eesho is directed by Nadirsha who had directed hit movies like Amar Akbar Antony, Kattapanayile Hrithikroshan.
12th Man
Yet another thriller from the most celebrated actor-director combo. After the hit movies Drishyam and Drishyam: Part Two, Jeethu Joseph and Mohanlal have begun working on 12th Man. With a stunning cast which includes Unni Mukundan, Aditi Ravi, Shine Tom Chako, Anusree, Saiju Kurup, Veena Nandakumar and Santhi Priya, the premise of the movie are the events that happen in a 24 hour timeline with a suspense in the end!
From conversing more about the industry, communities and the proper initiation by the industry to showcase what they are really capable of, the Malayalam cinema industry has grown, both artistically as well as entertainment wise.
OTT is an opportunity for everyone to experience every art in the same pace we enjoy our own colloquial art. And this list is a big thumbs up.
