Tennessee became the first state in the US to look for the ban on drag performances in public spaces immediately effected from April 1. The ban drew massive flak from the LGBTQ community. Many drag performers expressed their thoughts and criticized the move severely. At the latest, Grammy-winning singer Lizzo protested against Tennessee law at her concert on the 21st of April night in Knoxville.
In a concert, Lizzo protested against state legislation she filled her stage with drag queens, who performed openly, despite the law in place. A few of the drag queens who performed were Aquaria, Kandy Muse, Asia O’Hara, and Vanessa Vanji.

Later, Lizzo shared videos from the concert on Instagram, She wrote in gratitude, "THANK YOU TO THESE BEAUTIFUL DRAG QUEENS FOR SHOWING THEIR PRIDE IN TENNESSEE." She also thanked the audience, stating- "Knoxville you have my heart. Thank you for creating a safe space with me."
Many of Lizzo's fans responded to the post. A user said, "This is how you do it, this is how you support people, this is how you speak up, this is how you can be an ally." Another user referred to the law and said, "I was there and I can’t tell you how special it was to share that space with you. I hope you know that there are so many good, kind people in Tennessee who hate what we have to deal with every day from our legislators." One of the users from the LGBTQ community exclaimed, "This was needed--Thanks for standing up for us! Please do the same in Miami where drag queens are being demonized by the city for no reason-it's awful."
Under Tennessee law, Senate Bill considers these performances as being the topless dancers, go-go dancers, exotic dancers, strippers, male or female impersonators who provide entertainment that appeals to prurient interest, or similar entertainers. The Republican-controlled legislature ordered the drag ban on March 2. Earlier, it was supposed to be implemented in July but was amended to take effect from April onwards.
