Leander Paes Held Guilty For Domestic Violence Against His Partner Rhea Pillai

Leander Paes was found guilty by the court in the case of domestic violence against Rhea Pillai, his ex-girlfriend and live-in partner. The decision of the court was made available on Wednesday.

Famous Indian tennis player, Leander Paes and model-actor Rhea Pillai were reportedly in a live-in relationship for eight years and were even about to get married. But the couple broke up and Rhea, in 2014, filed domestic violence case against him. The cases were being heard until now when on February 23, a local court passed its order against the tennis star.

Court Finds Leander Paes Guilty Of Domestic Violence

In the year 2014, Rhea Pillai filed cases against Leander under the Protection of Women from Domestic Violence Act. She accused the tennis player of abusing her verbally, economically, and emotionally causing her emotional violence and trauma. The matter was being heard in a local court of Bombay that declared its stance on it.

The matter was being heard by Metropolitan magistrate Komalsing Rajput and she had passed her order earlier in the month but it was made available very recently, on Wednesday. Her order said, "It is proved that the respondent caused various acts of domestic violence." The court had asked Leander to pay Rhea a monthly rent of Rs. 50,000 along with a monthly maintenance of Rs. 1,00,000 after finding him guilty. However, the court also said that if Rhea chooses to live in their shared residence that is situated in Bandra, then she will no longer be receiving the monthly rent.

As per reports, the court said that since the tennis player is in a stage where his tennis career is almost over, it would not be right to order him to pay Rhea's monthly rent while he himself will be living in a rented apartment. Leander is currently in a relationship with actor Kim Sharma. He and Rhea started dating back in 2003 and have a 15 year old daughter together named Aiyana.
