After the film's trailer released on August 3, Dutta's transformation into the late Indian Prime Minister Indira Gandhi caught most attention. She even started trending on Twitter. Now that the film is out in the theatres, her performance is being praised equally.

Dutta considers this as a lifetime opportunity and revealed that it came with a huge responsibility. She told Bollywood Bubble, "It took three hours on a chair to get into the look of Indira Gandhi. It was freezing cold in Scotland and of course, when you shoot with Akshay Kumar you get up early. Honestly, though, we were so excited each day to see the transformation that it made all these challenges worthwhile."

Earlier, the actor took to Instagram, sharing a behind the scenes video and wrote, โ€œNever had I imagined portraying a personality this pivotal.โ€ In the BTS clip, Dutta can be seen getting her hair and make-up done, and at the end, the outcome stunned her as well. โ€œWhen I saw how this transformation translated on the screen, everything felt surreal and worth it.โ€

The trailer opened with an Indian plane being hijacked and people being taken hostage. The film also features Huma Qureshi, among others.

Bell Bottom released on more than 225 screens. It is one of the first films to have a theatrical release.
