Almost Unrecognisable In Bell Bottom Trailer, Lara Dutta Trends On Twitter

The Bhagam Bhaag actor played the role of India's then serving Prime Minister in the Akshay Kumar starter movie. Dutta can be seen playing a key role in the movie- from commanding officials to take steps to rescue a hijacked aeroplane assigning confidential tasks to Kumar.

Lara Dutta in Bell Bottom: The trailer of the spy thriller movie was released on August 3, featuring Dutta as Indira Gandhi. Dutta became the talking point on social media as many could not recognise the actor in Indira Gandhi's get up. Fans took to Twitter to praise the make-up artist as well as Dutta's performance.

Apart from the tweets claiming "Lara Dutta nailed it", some fans also claimed that Dutta looked like everything but Indira Gandhi in the trailer of the movie

The tweet in question further accused Bollywood of ending up making a clownish or a caricaturish version of Gandhi.

The Bhagam Bhaag actor played the role of India's then serving Prime Minister Indira Gandhi in the Akshay Kumar starrer movie. Dutta can be seen playing a key role in the movie- from commanding officials to take steps to rescue a hijacked aeroplane assigning confidential tasks to Kumar.

The 46-year-old actor was almost unrecognisable in the movie, owing to the makeup and prosthetics. While some fans criticised the portrayal, others praised her way of carrying Gandhi's character. The makeup artist also got many mentions on social media.

One of the tweets read, "Huge makeover. It is hard to believe that she is Lara Dutta," while another tweet asked the inevitable question, "did you recognise her (Dutta) in the trailer?"

On user said that the makeup artist of Bell Bottom should be given a national award owing to their work on Dutta as Gandhi. It added, "I bet you can't guess this Bollywood actress portraying the role of Indira Gandhi. Cant wait for the movie to release, especially for Lara Dutta's performance."

While many tweets claimed that it was unnecessary to cast Dutta in the role, another tweet claimed that Dutta is the perfect choice for the same.

The Vaani Kapoor starred and Ranjit M Tewari directed film will hit theatres on August 19 in 3D.
