Lara Dutta Connection Indira Gandhi: If Lara Dutta's look from Bell Bottom intrigued you then you'd be surprised to know that she also felt a special connection playing the former Prime Minister of India, Indira Gandhi. The actor has revealed that her father, Wing Commander L.K Dutta, was Indira Gandhi’s personal pilot and that he knew her closely. He had flown the former Prime Minister many times, Dutta shared.
Speaking to Pinkvilla, the Housefull actor said that growing up as a kid she heard many such stories about Indira Gandhi. So, she "felt an indirect personal connection" with her even before she got to play her. Dutta’s transformation as the former Indian Prime Minister has left netizens in awe. The actor shared that the prep for the movie began last year when she kickstarted look tests at home.
Dutta has received great appreciation from netizens when dropped a behind-the-scenes time-lapse video on Thursday, giving fans a glimpse into the transformation. Taking to Instagram she wrote, “Never had I imagined portraying a personality this pivotal.” In the clip, Dutta can be seen getting her hair and make-up done.
She also insisted that playing an iconic personality like Gandhi was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity but when she committed to it, there was a huge responsibility to train to look like her on-screen. Talking about using prosthetics and hair makeup, Dutta explained, "Beyond the prosthetics, a lot of work was done for ageing the face, wrinkles, pigmentation and of course, Ms Gandhi had a hairstyle that was a part of her personality. We got all of it together and did a look test and were surprised with the outcome. I couldn’t recognize myself in the mirror." More here.
Dutta surely took us all by surprise. She also revealed that her husband Mahesh Bhupathi and their nine-year-old daughter Saira were also intrigued but panicked looking at the prosthetics for the first time.
Bell Bottom also features Padman actor Akshay Kumar, Vaani Kapoor and Huma Qureshi. The film is scheduled to release on August 19th in theatres.
