Set in rural India in 2001, the film's story follows two brides who are accidentally swapped during a train journey. As their husbands embark on a quest to find the correct bride, the narrative unfolds with numerous twists and turns.

Produced by Aamir Khan Productions and Kindling Productions, the film marks Kiran Rao’s return to directing after a 14-year hiatus following her debut with Dhobi Ghat in 2010. Before its theatrical release, the film was showcased at the prestigious Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) in 2023, where it received a standing ovation from the audience.

Though the film was well-received by audiences when it was later released on Netflix India, it struggled to attract viewers during its initial theatrical release.
