Modern Love: Mumbai is an Indian anthology based on a popular American series titled Modern Love which is based on a column of the same name in the New York Times. In the Indian anthology, different directors have helmed different episodes and one of them, I Love Thane, has been helmed by Dhruv Sehgal and Nupur Pai. The story stars Masaba Gupta and Ritwik Bhowmik in lead roles and narrates the tale of romance between the two characters in Thane, a city near Mumbai in Maharashtra.

Kubbra Sait Thane Tweet Does Not Get Received Well

Like many fans of the show, Kubbra Sait also expressed how she loved the story and praised the makers and the cast for the same. In a tweet, Sait unfortunately wrote, "Who knew love could happen in Thane? The truth is love happens when you’re seen & accepted for who you are. The vulnerability of @MasabaG & the solidity of @ritwikbhowmikk gave me hope for a chance of love in this madness called Mumbai.#ModernLoveMumbai" Her overall message can to be taken in positive light and the actor for sure has gained something valuable from the show. What didn't work for her was the first sentence in her tweet.

The actor's surprise over the possibility of love in Thane angered many. Twitterati felt that the actor was implying that Thane is not a place to find love. One user replied to Sait and addressed the masses thinking their views were being wrongly formed due to the actor's tweet. They clarified that love can be found in Thane. They added, " People live there. Like, real human beings. It's not a swamp-like place like SoBo people will tell you. Anyhow, Sait is finding that out the hard way." Others accused Kubbra Sait of being limited in her views living in SoBo (South Bombay), as the affluent part of Mumbai is called.

Another user wrote, "The urban super-rich bubble is so thick, encompassing and culturally narrow that to their bourgeois senses even the suburban middle-class seem alien, God knows what they think about the working classes and the poor?" A user wrote that Sait thinks people living in Thane are asexual.

Ultimately, the Twitter conversation reached the pressing point--why do public figures tweet without thinking? Although the question is a good one, answers are somewhat available and they are too complex to take into consideration. If Sait was not famous for her role in Sacred Games and was not a celebrity with lakhs of people at her heels, she might not have so many replies to her tweet and the backlash would also be negligible. One "downside" of popularity is that you get called out a lot for the wrongs you casually do in anonymity. Celebrities spark outrage and indirectly end up teaching a lesson or two with their small and big slips.

With Sait's tweet incident, one thing was achieved--Thane people did not take uninformed view about their city and they made sure to come together and tell everyone that love can be found in there.
