An actor who has spent nearly three decades in Hollywood, won several awards and has been recognised as one of the top performers in the cine industry was dismissed was “Spiderman’s girlfriend” by top news agency, Reuters. This award-winning actor is Kirsten Dunst whose highest grosser happens to be the Spiderman series. Undoubtedly her role was liked by audiences world over that her character Mary Jane Watson was brought back over and over for three consecutive Spiderman films which came in 2002, 2004 and 2007.

It was an occasion of utmost joy that Reuters dampened through its tweet. Recently, Dunst finally got her Hollywood Walk of Fame star but Reuters acknowledged this by tweeting with a caption, “Kirsten Dunst, best known for her role as Spiderman’s girlfriend, receives a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.” (Which has since been deleted). Sure, Dunst’s widely recognised work has been the Spiderman series but her other works that have garnered her critical acclamation cannot be dismissed either.

Her performances in Interview with the Vampire, where her work was especially liked by the critics, as was the case with her performance in Little Women—an adaptation of the book by Louisa May Alcott by the same name. Some more films that went on to become cult-favourites of the masses are Marie Antoinette, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, The Virgin Suicides, and Bring It On.

“I just feel like, what did I do?” Dunst continued. “Sometimes you’re like, hm, it’d be nice to be recognised by your peers.”

Reuters' tweet comes as an insult to injury for Dunst as not long ago, she lamented not being recognised enough for her work in the industry. “I’ve never been recognised in my industry,” Dunst said. “I’ve never been nominated for anything — maybe like, twice, for Golden Globes when I was little and once for Fargo, but like, I always feel like nobody, I don’t know. Maybe they think I’m just the girl from ‘Bring It On.'”

“I’ve never been nominated for anything — maybe like, twice, for Golden Globes when I was little and once for ‘Fargo,’ but like, I always feel like nobody, I don’t know. Maybe they think I’m just the girl from Bring It On.”

However, after she received the star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, she expressed her joy by saying, “I always thought the stars were dedicated to the legends of the past,” she said at the ceremony. “I never thought that someday I would even be close to being part of that.”

Though it is true that Dunst hasn’t been nominated a lot of times for her work and it has been undermined by her peers, she received the Critics' Choice Television Award for Best Actress for a movie in 2016. She has also won a Cannes Film Festival Award for Best Actress in 2011 along with MTV Movie Award for Best Performance in a movie in 2003 among many other awards.
