A biography of Bhakti Sharma, a world-class Indian swimmer, is reportedly in the process of making. According to recent reports, for Bhakti Sharma's biopic, Kiara Advani and Shefali Shah are being considered for the roles of award-winning swimmer Bhakti Sharma and her mother, Leena Sharma, who has also served as her coach.
According to a recent report of the ETimes, a biography of Indian swimmer Bhakti Sharma is being produced. Bhakti, an open-water swimmer, is the first Asian woman and the world's youngest person to set a world record in competitive swimming in Antarctica's freezing waters. Leena Sharma, Bhakti's mother, has been her coach.
Leena Sharma said in her statement that "I think Shefali Shah and Alia Bhatt would be a great cast." She did say though, that the makers were considering Kiara Advani for the part. According to the report, Bhavani Iyer, a screenwriter who has worked on films such as Lootera and Raazi, is in charge of writing Bhakti Sharma's biopic.
For those who are unaware, Sharma began swimming at the age of two and a half years old, under the supervision of her mother, Leena Sharma. Her first open-water (sea) swim was a 16-kilometer swim from Uran port to the Gateway of India in 2003, after competing at the state and district levels. At the time, Sharma was only 14 years old.
Sharma holds the Asian record for the first swim by a three-member women's relay team across the English Channel, along with her mother-coach Leena Sharma and friend Priyanka Gehlot. She and her mother also hold the world record for being the first mother-daughter pair to swim across the English Channel, which they achieved in 2008. Sharma is indeed the third person in the world to swim in the Arctic Ocean, and she also swam in the Antarctic Ocean to become the youngest person to swim in all five oceans, an achievement for which Prime Minister Narendra Modi praised her.
