In the 2008 romantic drama Bachna Ae Haseeno, which revolves around Ranbir Kapoor's character's romantic encounters with different women at various stages of his life, Katrina Kaif was initially slated to portray the fourth leading lady. However, her character was ultimately cut from the final film. Reflecting on this setback, Kaif disclosed, "I was the fourth girl; that character got cut." Interestingly, during the film's production, Ranbir Kapoor and Deepika Padukone, who played the primary love interest, were romantically involved, adding another layer of intrigue to Kaif’s revelation.

At the time of Bachna Ae Haseeno's production, Kaif was still in the nascent stage of her career. Despite having appeared in several films like Maine Pyaar Kyun Kiya and Partner, as well as her breakout role in Namastey London, she faced people who doubted her potential in the industry. Recalling these discouraging moments, Kaif shared, "I have so many memories of people telling me to my face that you will not make it; you cannot succeed."
