Kangana Ranaut gets National Award: Actor Kangana Ranaut was on Monday honoured at the National Film Awards, held in New Delhi, as the 'Best Actress' for films Manikarnika: The Queen of Jhansi and Panga. The award was handed out by Vice President Venkaiah Naidu.
Tamil star Rajinikanth was felicitated with the Dadasaheb Phalke award, the topmost film honour in India. Other awardees included Manoj Bajpayee and Dhanush, who shared the 'Best Actor' recognition for their films Bhonsle and Asuran respectively.
Late actor Sushant Singh Rajput's final film Chhichhore was named the Best Hindi Film.

Ranaut opted for a red and gold saree for the award ceremony. Sharing her looks ahead of the event, she wrote in a series of posts on Instagram, "All set to receive the highest honour for an artist in the country today …. National Award... This is my fourth National Award... Immense gratitude for the teams of these films."

The winners' list for the National Awards was announced earlier this year in March, with the ceremony delayed in lieu of the COVID-19 situation in the country.
At the time, Ranaut had marked her win on social media, saying, "Please share this award with me… A film is of so many people." Read here.

- Best Actress: Tanu Weds Manu Returns (2015)
Ranaut's latest release Thalaivii, a biopic on the life of late AIADMK leader J Jayalalithaa released in September 2021, saw a good response from the audience, with the actor winning critical acclaim for her performance. Ranaut has wrapped up shoot for her upcoming action-thriller Dhaakad and began shooting for Tejas, in which she plays an Air Force officer, three weeks ago.
