The highly anticipated trailer for Kalki 2898 AD, starring Prabhas and Deepika Padukone, has finally dropped. Directed by Nag Ashwin, this Sci-fi/Action film is set to grace theatres on June 27, 2024, and promises to be a cinematic experience like no other. Available in multiple languages, the trailer offers a tantalising peek into the futuristic and mythological world that awaits audiences, blending ancient tales with science fiction.
Kalki 2898 AD Trailer Out
The trailer starts by taking us to the world of Kashi, called the first and last city ever. Saswata Chatterjee's evil ruler is causing chaos in the city, leading philosophers to hope for a divine power to save them. Amitabh Bachchan's character, Ashwatthama, predicts a new power is coming, and it is in the womb of Padma (Deepika Padukone).
When Saswata's evil forces pursue Padma and her unborn child, both Ashwatthama and the quirky hero Bhairava (Prabhas) come to her aid. Amitabh and Prabhas are shown doing some intense stunts. The trailer also shows Disha Patani fighting Prabhas and Kamal Haasan in an unrecognisable bald look, announcing the start of a new era.

Trailer Reactions
Fans eagerly anticipated the action-thriller starring Prabhas and Deepika Padukone. However, reactions were mixed after the trailer was released. While many praised the action sequences and VFX, some social media users criticised it for not meeting international standards, with some graphics becoming distracting.
Looks exceptional for our movies. Speaking for Telugu audience.

But Sir, where is the punch scene/Money shot? Prabhas entry demystified, too casual.
Felt pretty flat for all the hype because we do watch these setups in Hollywood usually. Amitji, Deepika dub in Telugu not great.
Decreased expectations after watching trailer. One of bad cut trailer of last few big movies in India.

The trailer for Kalki looks promising. However, the heavy use of graphics makes it hard for the audience to focus on details, and parts of the BGM sound reminiscent of DUNE. @Kalki2898AD @SrBachchan @TrendsPrabhas @deepikapadukone

The production quality is incredible. It doesn’t just superficially meet international standards; it truly achieves them. This film will break the barrier that such high standards are not out of reach for Indian cinema.
Made for International Audiences
In a recent interview with Deadline, Prabhas shared that Kalki 2898 AD is designed for a global audience. He explained, "The whole film is made for international audiences. That’s why it’s the highest budget, and we’ve got the best actors in the country.” He also discussed being called a pan-Indian star, saying, "We were hearing for the first time people calling me ‘pan-Indian’. That doesn’t really affect me, but it’s a good feeling to think that people around the country like me now."
Plot Spanning 6000 Years
Director Nag Ashwin previously revealed details about the film's timeline at an event. He stated that the story begins with the Mahabharat and extends to the year 2898 AD, spanning a total of 6000 years. Ashwin emphasised that they aimed to create unique worlds while maintaining an Indian essence, unlike other sci-fi films like Blade Runner. The film starts 6,000 years before 2898 AD, which places the beginning at 3102 BC, marking the believed end of Krishna's last avatar.
The Delay
Initially scheduled for a May 9 release, Kalki 2898 AD faced a postponement due to the upcoming elections in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh on May 13. Although the election dates were made public in March, the filmmakers waited until April to officially announce the new release date in June.
