Jennifer Mistry Bansiwal, known for her role as Roshan Sodhi in Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah, accused the show's producer, Asit Modi, of sexual harassment, resulting in an FIR filed against him last year. According to a recent report from ETimes, the verdict in Jennifer's sexual harassment case has been issued, with the ruling favoring her.
As per the portal, Asit Modi has been instructed to settle Jennifer's outstanding payments and provide her with ₹5 lakh as compensation. Jennifer confirmed the news, stating, "The verdict is in my favour, confirming the allegations I made with strong evidence. This outcome surpasses what the police achieved in the past year."
Actor Jennifer Mistry Wins Sexual Harassment Case Against Asit Modi: Report
Jennifer Mistry mentioned that Asit Modi has been directed to pay her outstanding dues along with additional compensation, totaling approximately ₹25–30 lakh, for intentionally withholding her payments. Additionally, an extra ₹5 lakh has been imposed on Asit for harassment, although Jennifer has not yet received any payment from him. She further revealed that the verdict was issued on February 15, 2024, but she was advised not to disclose it to the media.
Earlier, in her FIR, Bansiwal confirmed that she left the show and claimed that producers Sohil Ramani and Asit Modi sexually assaulted her. She alleged that she had been enduring the assault for a long time, hoping things would improve with time.
Jennifer's Accusation Against Asit Modi And Others
She admitted that the show Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chasmah gave her the name, fame, and money that she enjoys today. She told the ETimes that she wants people to know what she has gone through. She shared that there were multiple incidents where Asit Modi tried to flirt with her and made sexual advances. She recalled one incident when Asit Modi pulled her cheeks and called her "sexy". She also revealed that she has filed a sexual harassment case against Asit Modi, Sohail Ramani, and Jatin Bajaj.
She added that every person on the show was a "bonded labourer." She shared that numerous incidents had happened in the past, but she had let them go, hoping that things would change. She recalled one incident during her pregnancy when she did not want to leave the show but was sacked when Gurucharan Singh (the actor who played her on-screen husband) quit. She said that she had suggested an alternate storyline and made several requests not to be sacked. She claimed that she was ready to work until the ninth month of her pregnancy but was sacked.
The project head of Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chasmah, Sohail Ramani, responded to the allegations in another publication Hindustan Times. He said that Jennifer had been working with them for 15 years, and there have been several ups and downs. He claimed that they have ignored her creating issues among others, such as showing up late for the shoot, creating misunderstandings, etc., and added that they have a lot of evidence against her. He questioned why she never complained to the committee for women and stated that she was playing the "woman card."
