Jaya Bachchan in Sadabahar: Veteran actor and politician Jaya Bachchan is all set to make her OTT debut with a project titled Sadabahar. Bachchan started shooting for the series in February but had to halt work in mid-April because of the COVID-19 second wave in the country. She is back to the sets of Sadabahar now as the restrictions have begun to ease over the past weeks.
A source told Mid-Day, “The team shot at Sony Mony and Apna Bazar in Andheri this week. The story is being shot in real locations, and the makers are mindful of keeping the crew to a bare minimum. A unit of 50 has been handpicked for the bio-bubble shoot.”
Jaya Bachchan’s first screen role as an adult was in Hrishikesh Mukherjee’s film Guddi (1971), thereby marking 2021 as her 50th year in the film industry. While her career involved a number of roles on the big screen that propelled her towards esteemed prominence, her venture onto the digital platform in the form of a series would certainly be an interesting watch.
Jaya Bachchan’s digital debut marks her return to sets after a special appearance in R Balki’s 'Ki & Ka' (2016). She is currently also a serving Rajya Sabha member, representing Samajwadi Party. This is her fourth term as a Member of Parliament.
In February it was reported that Bachchan would be making a comeback to the silver screen with a Marathi film. The film is directed by Gajendra Ahire and it is being said that the project was completed in mere 20 days. Read more on that here.
Then in March 2021, Jaya Bachchan was in news after she slammed Uttarakhand Chief Minister Tirath Singh Rawat for his remarks on women wearing ripped jeans. While attending a workshop organised by Uttarakhand State Commission for Protection of Child Rights in Dehradun, Rawat said that he was shocked to see a female NGO worker wearing ripped jeans. He questioned what example she was setting for society. “If this kind of woman goes out in the society to meet people and solve their problems, what kind of message are we giving out to society, to our kids? It all starts at home. What we do, our kids follow. A child who is taught the right culture at home, no matter how modern he becomes, will never fail in life," he said.
Responding to Rawat's statement, Bachchan said, such statements do not suit a Chief Minister. "Those in higher posts must think and make public statements. You say such things in today’s times, you will decide who’s cultured and who’s not based on clothes? It’s bad mindset and encourages crimes against women,” she said.
