Celebrating her 76th birthday today, Jaya Bachchan, the veteran actor in Indian cinema, is admired not only for her acting prowess but also for her role as a great mother. Despite her public persona, Jaya has shared insightful reflections on the profound bond she shares with her children. In a heartfelt throwback, let's revisit her musings on the mother-daughter relationship, with her daughter Shweta.
Bachchan once expressed her admiration for her daughter, Shweta Bachchan, labelling her as her primary source of strength, even more so than her son, actor Abhishek Bachchan. The mother-daughter duo recently appeared on the inaugural episode of What The Hell Navya season two, hosted by Navya Nanda. Sharing the episode on her YouTube channel, Navya titled it Who Makes The World Go Round. During the conversation, Navya questioned Shweta about her reserved opinions, to which Shweta responded, explaining her hesitance to comment on topics she felt uninformed about, to avoid appearing ignorant.
Towards the conclusion of the show, Navya noted Shweta's intellect and the value of her opinions. As the conversation unfolded, Jaya Bachchan, who had been listening and smiling, reached out to her daughter and expressed, "She is my strength," emphasising Shweta's pivotal role in her life. She elaborated, remarking that Shweta, more than her son Abhishek, embodies her source of strength, possibly attributing it to her gender.
Jaya Bachchan Calls Shweta Her 'Strength'
She said, "She is, more than my son, she's my strength. I don't know whether that's because she's a woman. But she's my strength." Shweta graciously accepted her mother's acknowledgement, and both Navya and Shweta acknowledged the sentiment as "sweet."
Shweta Bachchan is the daughter of Jaya and veteran actor Amitabh Bachchan. She is married to businessman Nikhil Nanda, with whom she shares two children, Navya and Agastya Nanda. On the other hand, Abhishek Bachchan, Jaya and Amitabh's son is married to actor Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, and they have a daughter named Aaradhya Bachchan.
In a previous interview with Times Now, Abhishek Bachchan praised his mother, debunking misconceptions about her strictness and highlighting her unconditional love and support. Reflecting on his childhood, Abhishek recalled turning to his mother for solace and emphasised her role in filling any voids left by his father's busy schedule.
Here’s what he said, "Contrary to public opinion about my mother, she's not strict. She's the one I would go running to as a kid. She's particular. And no, I've not seen her videos with the paps. That word, 'Maa' encapsulates pure love. When my father would be busy with his shooting, he would hardly get time to spend with us. The person who never allowed me and my sister to feel that void was my mother. And that can be only done through love. I think parents are the perfect balance of both."
In their recent works, Jaya Bachchan was last seen in Karan Johar's Rocky aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani, where she starred alongside Ranveer Singh, Alia Bhatt, Dharmendra, and Shabana Azmi. The film was well-received upon its release.
