Inventing Anna: Anna Sorokin aka Anna Delvey, one of the biggest con women, was faking it as a millionaire heiress to cheat people in New York.
Disguised as a German heiress, Sorokin scammed many banks and businesses with a hefty sum of $200,000.
Sorokin had also tried to launch a Manhattan art club with a $22 million bank loan. However, she served her time at prison after being produced before a judge at Manhattan Criminal Court in 2019. Later, the con artist was released from the Albion Correctional Facility in February for her good behaviour.
Now, her deeds are paying off as she would be the source of inspiration for an upcoming true crime show on Netflix.

Netflix paid Anna Sorokin a sum of $320,000 to bring her life to screen. The forthcoming series will be produced by Shonda Rhimes, and Julia Garner is attached to the project as the protagonist. Previously, Shonda has worked on Grey’s Anatomy, Scandal and Bridgerton. The Ozark actor will headline the impressive cast including Anna Chlumsky will play the journalist investigating her con; Laverne Cox will appear as Kacy Duke, a celebrity trainer and life coach; Jennifer Esposito has signed on for the part of Talia Mallay, the famous owner of a lifestyle brand.
However, she was not permitted to keep the entire amount that Netflix had paid her. “I never asked for Netflix to buy my story, it just happened,” Sorokin said. “And everything else, it just spun out of my control. It’s not like I orchestrated anything.”
Who is Anna Sorokin?
The “fake heiress” Anna Sorokina was born in Russia and moved to New York in 2013. The 30-year-old was convicted of fraud charges in 2019. She was sentenced to between four to 12 years in prison. After maintaining acceptable behaviour in prison, she was released on February 12th, 2021.
“She was found guilty in 2019 of theft of services and grand larceny, having scammed more than $200,000 (£145,000) from banks and luxury hotels. It is thought Sorokin could now face deportation,” reports BBC.
