Indira Devi, Mahesh Babu's Mother Passes Away Due To Illness, Fans Offer Condolences

Actor Mahesh Babu's mother Indira Devi passed away in Hyderabad on Wednesday morning owing to prolonged illnesses. The Tollywood star's mother was undergoing treatment at a hospital in the city. 70-year-old Indira Devi breathed her last at her home in Hyderabad. She is survived by her husband Telugu star Krishna, son Mahesh Babu and her three daughters.

Indira Devi's demise strikes as a second tragedy to hit the family, as her elder son Ramesh Babu died earlier this year due to liver disease. The Telugu superstar, who was extremely close to his mother, received condolences from his fans across the country. Indira Devi married Krishna, Telugu actor and Mahesh Babu's father, in 1961 and has since remained a strong binding force for the family who have prominently held the reigns of Tollywood in the past few decades.

Mahesh Babu Mother dies

Indira Devi breathed her last at 4 am, she was suffering from prolonged illness and was under treatment at a private hospital in Hyderabad. Her mortal remains will be kept at Padmalaya Studios for fans to visit and pay their respects. The cremation will take place at Maha Prasthanam in Hyderabad.

Post Indira Devi's demise, the family released a statement confirming her death. The statement reads: “Smt. Ghattamaneni Indira Devi, wife of veteran actor Krishna and mother of Mahesh Babu passed away a short while ago. She had been suffering from illness for quite some time now. Her mortal remains will be kept at Padmalaya Studios for fans to visit at 9 am today and later the last rites will be performed at Maha Prasthanam."

Several fans reached out to him and his family and offered their respects for his mother. The fans have been reaching out to the actor via social media asking him to remain strong. A fan wrote: "Stay strong, Anna." Tollywood superstar Chiranjeevi also offered his condolences to the family and tweeted in Telugu, writing:  "Extremely sad to hear about the demise of Indira Devi Garu. I convey my deepest condolences to Superstar Krishna Garu, brother Mahesh Babu, and the family."

Actor-producer Mahesh Babu made a heartwarming mother's day post for his mother in May this year. Sharing pictures of his mother, his wife Namrita Shirodkar along with their children, he wrote, "To my Amma. To the mother of my lifelines. And to all the mothers in the world...A very happy Mother's Day! Your love is irreplaceable. Respect always!"
