Sitara Parveen from Bihar is the latest singing sensation on the reality show Indian Idol season 12. Recently, the judges of the show Himesh Reshammiya, Vishal Dadlani and Neha Kakkar couldn’t stop gushing after her performance on Jiya Re Jiya from Jab Tak Hai Jaan. Her performance earned Parveen the golden ticket and helping her move further in the show. Parveen, however, revealed that belonging to a Muslim household, it wasn't easy for her to follow her passion. She claimed she faced criticism from society and her own family members for learning to sing.
Here's a glimpse of her performance:
Her family, who hails from a small town in Bihar, faced resistance as she pursued her dreams, one of her brothers being a maulvi. Parveen expressed her gratitude towards her brother Haider who helped her learn music. She said that she started taking singing lessons in secret and went to the school for a limited time period to avoid difficulties at home and in society. Similarly, when Parveen began appearing for the audition rounds of Indian Idol 12, her visits were kept under wraps as everyone would have opposed it.
"Women in our society are looked down upon if they try to excel in any field," said Sitara Parveen.
