Huma Qureshi on Maharani: Leila actor Huma Qureshi is next to be seen in Subhash Kapoor’s Maharani which is a series portraying a female politician.
Qureshi's character Rani Bharti brings to mind the story of the first female Chief Minister of Bihar Rabri Devi. However, in a recent interview, the actor said that it was not the case.
In an interview with Pinkvilla, Qureshi clarified the reports which say that character is based on the former Chief Minister and said that it is not about Rabri Devi at all. The actor called her character completely fictional and said that there is nothing common between her character and Devi except both of them being women Chief Ministers.
"There is no other commonality. You have seen the trailer and teaser, it's very different," she said.
Amit Sial, who is one of the main characters of the show also said to The Tribune that it is a "fictional story". He added that while watching a series, the audience is often compelled to look for similarities with true events, and even though the timeline and the setting of the place suggest it to be on a real story, it can be seen as a story from any other state of the country.
Maharani, which is set to release on the streaming platform Sony LIV tells the story of a female politician who comes to power after beating all odds. Although the actors of the show deny its relation to the former Chief Minister of Bihar, the teaser and trailer makes one remember a very similar story of Rabri Devi.
In the show, Huma Qureshi plays the role of an illiterate housewife, who is the wife of Bihar's Chief Minister and becomes the successor of her husband after he meets with a serious accident.
Rabri Devi was appointed as the Chief Minister of Bihar after the then Chief Minister Lalu Yadav stepped down from his position after he was issued an arrest warrant on the charges of corruption.
