Rapper-singer Honey Singh and Shalini Talwar are officially divorced. The singer has reportedly paid Rs 1 crore in alimony for the divorce settlement.
The couple was in the middle of the legal battle after Talwar filed a case of domestic violence against the singer in court. She claimed that the rapper had beaten her “mercilessly”. The case was registered under the Protection of Women from Domestic Violence Act.
Honey Singh Shalini Talwar Officially Divorced
Honey Singh and Shalini Talwar got married in 2011. Last year, Shalini approached the Tis Hazari Court in Delhi and filed a case of domestic violence against the singer alongside a compensation of ₹20 crore.
Talwar filed a 118-page petition with several charges against her husband and her in-laws. In her petition, Shalini detailed incidents that dated back to 2011, when the couple went on a honeymoon in Mauritius.
Her accusations reportedly blamed Honey aka Hridesh Singh for physical, emotional, and mental abuse. The accusations ranged from extramarital affairs, physical violence to refusing to acknowledge the marriage in public. She also accused her father-in-law of alleged sexual assault.
In 2014, Honey Singh introduced his wife to the audience in an episode of reality show India’s Raw star. Singh once confessed that Talwar is his worst critic and is not a very big fan of his songs.
He had issued a statement after the accusations came out and called them “false and malicious”. He also requested fans not to draw conclusions and said, “The allegations are subject to be proven.” In a long statement posted on Instagram, the singer had written, “I have never issued a public statement or press note in the past despite being subjected to harsh criticism for my lyrics, speculation on my health, & negative media coverage in general. However, I see no merit in maintaining a studied silence this time because some of the allegations have been directed at my family, my old parents and younger sister who have stood by me during some very difficult and trying times and comprise my world. The allegations are cynical and defaming in nature (sic).”
