The Hindi film industry has been known to produce a large number of films every year and a chunk of them are remakes of films from regional cinema including the Tamil cinema industry. Dhuruvangal Pathinaaru, Hit, Vikram Vedha, Soorarai, Pottru, Kaithi, and Ratsasan are some of the films that will be remade in Hindi and will be releasing soon.

Tamil cinema has over the years gotten popular across global audiences because of the emphasis placed on the narrative, and plot. Having a popular actor as cast in the film is like the cherry on top of the cake. But sometimes, filmmakers remake a film in another language so as to cater to a different audience group. However, the success of remakes is heavily dependent on the actors cast in the film and how they justify the remake. For instance, the Hindi remake of Ok Kanmani tanked at the Box Office since the audience thought the original film was way better than the remake that lacked substance in spite of having a great cast.

Shubh Mangal Saavdhan

Shubh Mangal Saavdhan is a romantic comedy and remake of the Tamil film Kalyana Samayal Saadham, which was released four years before the Hindi remake in 2013. While the original film stars Prasanna and Lekha Washington; Ayushmann Khurrana and Bhumi Pednekar starred in the remake. The film revolves around a software engineer who amidst his wedding preparations is struggling to find a solution for erectile dysfunction.

Singham

The Rohit Shetty directorial starring Ajay Devgn is a remake of the Tamil film Singam starring Suriya. The cast of the remake included Kajal Aggarwal, Sachin Khedekar and Prakash Raj who reprised his role from the original film. Meanwhile, the original film starred Anushka Shetty in the lead role. The film revolves around a righteous inspector who tries to rectify a corrupt system in his capacity. Following the success of the first film, Devgn and director Rohit Shetty teamed up for the sequel, Singham Returns (2014).

Ghajini

Ghajini is one of the most popular action-thriller films that starred Aamir Khan and Asin Thottumkal. The original film of the same name starred Asin and Suriya in the lead roles. Pradeep Rawat played the villain in both--the original and remake. The plot revolves around a businessman with memory impairment who wants to avenge the killing of his love interest. He takes the assistance of an instant polaroid camera and permanent inkings on his body in his quest. The Tamil and Hindi films respectively were a huge success. Asin who reprised her role made her debut in the Hindi film industry with the remake.

Force

Starring John Abraham, Vidyut Jamwal was a successful action-thriller. The 2011 film is a remake of the hit Tamil film Kaakha Kaakha from 2003. The original film starred Suriya, Jyothika and Jeevan as the antagonist in the film. The plot revolved around a loyal police official who pursues a dangerous mobster and attempted at arresting him and bringing him down. Force 2 was released in 2016 following the success of Force.

Rehnaa Hai Terre Dil Mein

A remake of the Tamil film Minnale, the Hindi film released in 2001. In both--the original and remake--R Madhavan starred in the lead role. While the Tamil film starred Reema Sen, the Hindi film starred Dia Mirza who made her debut with this film. The film became a cult classic over time but was not a commercial success at the Box Office. The film revolves around a man who cons his way into the heart of the woman he likes. When she confronts him after learning about it, he shows no remorse for he thinks everything is fair in love and war.

Tere Naam

The 2003 romantic-action drama starring Salman Khan and Bhumika Chawla was a remake of the Tamil film Sethu, which featured Chiyaan Vikram and was released in 1999. The plot of the film centres around Radhey, a man with a bad temper who frequently gets into fights and falls in love with a simple woman from his college who is already engaged. Things go awry for him after a brutal attack on him damages his mental health. The 2003 film was Bhumika's debut film.
