While most of the time, the story revolves around the separation of the couple due to economic conditions, there have been other movies as well which depict what actually happens in the Indian society on the pretext of arranged marriage or people falling apart due to lack of feelings for each other.

Classics like Devdas, Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam, Chandni, Silsila have always been on the top charts of such movies. 

Hindi Movies On Love Triangle-

Manmarziyaan-

Manmarziyaan is the story of two young lovebirds, totally in love with each other. However, the family and society they live in do not support the relationship. Rumi(played by Taapsee Pannu) wants to marry Vicky(played by Vicky Kaushal) but her parents want her to opt for arranged marriage. She still convinces her parents to meet Vicky but he does not show up. Eventually, Rumi is married to Robbie (played by Abhishek Bachchan) who has been chosen by  her parent.

As Robbie gets to understand that Rumi might be cheating on her, he sets her free. However, Rumi understands that she always wanted a person like Robbie who is a "husband material" and cares for her all his life. The 2018 movie was directed by Anurag Kashyap.

Chandni -

Chandni(played by Sridevi) is a happy-going girl who dreams of a perfect boy until she meets Rohit Gupta (played by Rishi Kapoor). The duo falls in love and gets engaged. However, the family of Gupta is not happy with Chandni due to her lower societal status. Just before they are to get married, Rohit meets with an accident and gets paralysed. Chandni is blamed by his parents and ultimately Rohit convinces her to leave him. She starts a new life in Mumbai where a man named Lalit Khanna(played by Vinod Khanna) falls in love with her and the duo decides to get married. 

However, Rohit returns later and finds each other involved in a complicated relationship. The movie by Yash Chopra is a must-watch if you plan on seeing a love triangle with an amazing sound score. 

Devdas-

The classic movie adapted from Sarat Chandra Chattopadhyay's novel of the same name entails the love story of childhood lovers Devdas(played by Shahrukh Khan) and Paro(played by Aishwarya Rai), who are separated due to the former's family objection to their relationship. Devdas belongs to a rich aristocratic family while Paro belongs to a modest family of dancers.

Anger issues makes Devdas leave his home, leaving Paro without any help, and ultimately she agrees to marry an aged landlord chosen by her parent. Devdas learns about it and is unable to grasp it. He starts going to brothels and a famous dancer named Chandramukhi(played by Madhuri Dixit) falls in love with him.

She dedicates her life towards him, however, the latter is still in love with Paro. The movie progresses as Devdas' health starts deteriorating and he goes on to meet Paro for the last time. Even though the movie is long, it will keep you gripped throughout. This 2002 movie was directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali.

Jab We Met-

The Imtiaz Ali movie is always a treat to watch for humor, comedy, and at the same time portraying the harsh reality of life. Geet(played by Kareena Kapoor) is a girl from Bhatinda who loves to live life on her own terms. She meets a heartbroken Aditya(Shahid Kapoor) on a train while going from Mumbai to Bhatinda. The duo gets into a spat with each other and misses their train.

Geet, now forces Aditya to leave her home in Bhatinda. During their journey both get to know each other and start admiring each other. However, after Geet chooses to run away with Anshuman(Tarun Arora) and does not return back to her home, her parents ask Aditya to search for her. The role of Geet won Kareena Kapoor many awards at various award function.

Kal Ho Naa Ho-

Kal Ho Naa Ho is a 2003 movie about the love triangle of three friends- Aman, Rohit, and Naina, played by Shahrukh Khan, Saif Ali Khan, and Preity Zinta respectively. Aman moves into the same locality where Naina. He meets her family and they also  start to consider him no less their own son. Rohit, a childhood friend of Naina is in love with her, but is unable to gather the courage to tell her about his feelings. Meanwhile, Naina starts developing feelings for Aman, and on the day she goes to propose to him, he lies that he is married.

Taal-

Taal is a musical-dance drama with Aishwarya Rai playing the role of Mansi who is the daughter of a village-based spiritual singer in Chamba. She meets with the son of businessman Manav(played by Akshay Khanna) and the duo falls in love with each other. However, the latter's father disapproves of their relationship owing to Mansi's poor economic conditions. Things take a turn when she goes to Mumbai and meets Vikrant(played by Anil Kapoor) and signs a three-year contract with him for dancing and singing as the lead in his company. 

She becomes famous and on the day when Vikrant and Mansi are about to get married, the former realises Mansi's feeling for Manav and gets them married. 

Barfi-

The romantic comedy drama shows the love triangle of Jhilmil (plated by Priyanka Chopra), Barfi (played by Ranbir Kapoor), and Shruti( played by Ileana D'Cruz). Barfi is a hearing and speech impaired man from Darjeeling who falls in love with Shruti and is charmed by her beauty. Owing to the conditions of Barfi, Shruti's mom convinces her to leave him and move to Kolkata to get married to a well-off person.

She breaks all contact with Barfi. Later, he meets Jhilmil, and the two start loving each other's company until Shruti returns to their life again. The movie was directed by Anurag Basu and produced by Ronnie Screwvala and Siddharth Roy Kapur under the banner of UTV Motion Pictures. 

Kuch Kuch Hota Hai-

A movie that has set various trends of dialogues like- "pyaar dosti hai", "kuch kuch hota hai anjali, tum nahi samjhogi". Shah Rukh Khan's character love story involved two friends- Anjali and Rahul, played by Kajol and Shahrukh Khan respectively.

While Anjali develops feelings for Rahul, the latter falls for a college newcomer Tina and marries her. As Anjali leaves the city, he begins understanding that she might have a feeling for him. The has not aged well as many have called it out for the way Anjali's character had to grow her hair and wear saree in order to be noticed by Rahul. The movie directed by Karan Johar was produced under the banner of Dharma Productions. 

Andaaz-

The movie featured Priyanka Chopra and Lara Dutta, the two winners of world beauty pageants together for the first time in the movie after their win. Along with Akshay Kumar, the story portrays the love triangle between them. Raj (Kumar) falls in love with her neighbour Kajal (Dutta), but the latter marries off a businessman named Karan and Raj does not confess his love to her. Directed by Raj Kanwar, the movie won Priyanka Chopra Best Debuting Actor award at the Filmfare award.

Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam -

The movie by ace director Sanjay Leela Bhansali is the classic love triangle that one can remember in Hindi cinema. A bubbly young girl Nandini( played by Aishwarya Rai) is the daughter of a music maestro and falls in love with one Sameer who came from Italy to learn music from her father. 

On learning about their love affair, Nandini's father calls Sameer(Salman Khan) and asks him to give him Guru-Dakshina by leaving his house and never returning back. He leaves and against her wishes, Nandini is married to a simple sober lawyer named Vanraj(Ajay Devgn). The duo could not remain happy in their marriage.
