Hindi Films on Miscarriage: Topics such as miscarriage and abortion are hushed in the Indian society as they are considered taboo since generations. Yet, Bollywood has touched upon these in its hindi films on miscarriage and abortion time and again in order to sensitise the issue among the generations to come. From Pinjar to Gehraiyaan, here are some hindi films on miscarriage that have depicted how painful it is for a mother to lose her child right in her womb.

While miscarriage is quite common and likely occur in the early stages of pregnancy, the society many times blame the mother for being irresponsible and losing her child. A mother who loses her child is seen as the villain somehow despite the fact that miscarriages can also happen naturally. While Bollywood has some films based on surrogacy, miscarriage and abortion still remain as mere depictions while having other themes as the driving storylines in most Bollywood films.

Here are some Hindi films on miscarriage which do have some other driving theme, yet touch upon the issue of miscarriage.

Pinjar

Set in post-independence India, Pinjar mostly focusses on the plight of women as they were being abducted and molested both in India and Pakistan. Puro marries the man who abducts her after she is abandoned by her family. She becomes pregnant but miscarries her baby fitting into the uneasy routine of her marriage.

Anjaam

Shivani (Madhuri Dixit) is beaten by a prison guard while she is pregnant which causes her miscarriage in the film. Anjaam is a psychological-thriller and Madhuri Dixit also bagged a Filmfare nomination for her intense role in the movie.

Chori Chori Chupke Chupke

Chori Chori Chupke Chupke is mainly based on the topic of surrogacy as a couple decides to bear their child through a surrogate mother after Priya (Rani Mukerji) has a miscarriage Raj (Salman Khan) has been she will not be able to conceive again. The couple come across Madhoo (Preity Zinta) and a love triangle is shown as she falls in love with Raj.

Sandeep Aur Pinky Faraar

The film touches upon miscarriage in its real form as Sandeep suffers a miscarriage after being raped and is drenched in blood. However, Pinky comes to her rescue as he cleans her up and also burns up her blood-drenched clothes. Sandeep Aur Pinky Faraar casts Parineeti Chopra as Sandeep and Arjun Kapoor as Pinky.

Dabangg 2

The Bollywood action-drama film shows miscarriage in its most dramatic form as Sonakshi Sinha is shown falling from the stairs with her pregnant belly and the very next moment, she is lying on a hospital bed asking her policeman husband to take revenge on the goons who killed their unborn child.

Gehraiyaan

Again a very realistic characterisation of miscarriages, yet the circumstances that led to it are quite dramatic in the film as Alisha (Deepika Padukone) is involved in a physical banter with Zain (Siddhant Chaturvedi) and bleeds when she comes back home after the fateful night. Gehraiyaan is a story that revolves around modern complicated relationships and their struggles.
