Hillary Clinton On Meghan Markle: Hillary Clinton stands up for Meghan Markle as she faced cruelty from the British media. She also slammed the Royals for not standing up against this.
American politician, diplomat, lawyer, writer, and public speaker Hillary Clinton stood up for Meghan Markle. She slammed The Royals for not supporting Meghan Markle when she was facing outrageous cruelty at the hands of British tabloids.
The Former First Lady of the United States, Hillary Clinton said it was “heartbreaking” that the “so-called ‘Firm’” and the UK media did not embrace Markle to the Washington Post. Clinton said, "The fact she did not get more support, that the--that the reaction was, you know, let’s just paper it over and pretend that it didn’t happen, or it will go away." She further added, "Just keep your head down. Well, you know, this young woman was not about to keep her head down. You know, this is 2021, and she wanted to live her life."
This reaction of Hillary Clinton came after the bombshell interview of Meghan Markle with Oprah Winfrey. Clinton described this interview as '' so heartrending to watch'' as Markle shared the traumas she faced during her royal stay. Markle described herself as virtually having no freedom, and described being effectively forced into isolation in the palace. The most surprising and heartwrenching part of the interview was when Meghan spoke about getting suicidal thoughts. Further, Markle shared reaching out for professional help outside the royals and not being allowed.
Michelle Obama, Hillary Clinton On Meghan Markle
Echoing Clinton, former First Lady Michelle Obama has also dubbed Markle's racism claims "heartbreaking." Talking to NBC News, the Becoming author said, "I feel like that was heartbreaking to hear... As I said before, race isn't a new construct in this world for people of colour, and so it wasn't a complete surprise to hear her feelings and to have them articulated."
"I think the thing that I hope for, and the thing I think about, is that this, first and foremost, is a family. I pray for forgiveness and healing for them so that they can use this as a teachable moment for us all": Michelle Obama on Markle
After hearing such shocking revelations by Markle, Clinton further added, "It was heartbreaking to see the two of them sitting there, having to describe how difficult it was to be accepted, to be integrated, not just into the royal family as they described, but more painfully into the larger society’s, whose narrative is driven by tabloids that are living in the past."
A woman stood up for a woman when a whole family didn't. Clinton concluded by saying, "really trying to send a message about what institutions... need to do to be more dynamic and forward-looking than they currently are."
