Actor Hilary Duff has been roped in for a How I Met Your Mother sequel series, titled How I Met Your Father. Taking to her Instagram handle, Duff announced that she is on board to star in the upcoming spin-off series and wrote, "Today is a good day @hulu #howimetyourfather cloud10."
How I Met Your Mother ran on CBS from 2005 to 2014. Now, the sequel series is coming to Hulu with Duff in the lead.
Here's everything we know about the series, so far:
1. As per Variety, much like its prequel, the upcoming series will revolve around the lead character Sophie (played by Duff) who would tell her son the story of how she met his father. It's a story about her close-knit group of friends who will be figuring out life in the time of dating apps in the year 2021.
2. It is still unclear how or if the new show will ever tie into the original storyline, which was a long-running CBS comedy.
3. The show will be helmed by award-winning This Is Us co-showrunners and Love, Victor co-creators Isaac Aptaker and Elizabeth Berger, who will also serve as writers and executive producers.
4. Apart from starring in, Duff will also produce the show with Adam Londy serving as co-executive producer. How I Met Your Mother (HIMYM) creators Carter Bays and Craig Thomas are also onboard as executive producers.
5. Expressing her excitement to star in the series, Duff said, "I've been incredibly lucky in my career to play some wonderful characters and I'm looking forward to taking on the role of Sophie." Duff revealed that she is a huge fan of HIMYM and that she is honoured and at the same time "a little nervous" to be working in the sequel. Saying that she is "just fangirling", Duff claimed, "I realize these are big shoes to fill and I'm excited to slip my 6 1/2 's in there."
6. Back in 2014, HIMYM creators Thomas and Bays and Emily Spivey wrote a pilot for CBS that starred Greta Gerwig and Drew Tarver, but ultimately it was not picked up for a spin-off series.
