Girls Will Be Girls: Richa Chadha’s Maiden Production Goes On Floors

With their friends and family, Richa Chadha and Ali Fazal recently celebrated their marriage. Following their lavish wedding reception, Chadha and Fazal are now celebrating by putting their debut drama, Girls Will Be Girls, on the floors in Uttarakhand.

The movie won the Arte Kino award and the VFF Talent Highlights Award at the Berlinale Co-Production Market earlier this year. For women who want to work as gaffers in the industry in June 2022, Pushing Buttons Studio also offered a free lighting workshop called UnderCurrent.

Girls Will Be Girls Plot And Cast

The film, directed by debutante Shuchi Talati, has already made headlines for the numerous prestigious grants it has been awarded over the past year. The protagonist of the story is 16-year-old Mira, whose rebellious coming-of-age is sabotaged by her mother, a woman who never grew up. The film is set in a small town in the foothills of the Himalayas with a boarding school.

Girls Will Be Girls has cast multi-award-winning Malayalam actor Kani Kusruti in the title role. In the world of independent film, she is a force to be reckoned with after having previously won the prestigious Kerala State Award, Filmfare Award, Rome Prisma Award, and the BRICS international awards.

Preeti Panigrahi and Kesav Binoy Kiron, two new young actors who will play the lead roles alongside Kani, will make their film debuts. The movie is an Indo-French co-production that Crawling Angel Films, Pushing Buttons Studios, and the French company Dolce Vita Films are working together to produce.

Shuchi Talati, the director of the film, said about the film, "The process has naturally overwhelmed me, but I'm also very eager to make my first movie. Being validated by the numerous grants our project has received has given me confidence in the script. I'm hoping I can meet the standard. Thanks to a great cast and crew, I am fortunate to be working on this project."

Chadha added her remarks by saying, "Since I always wanted to support high-quality indies, I am grateful for these humble beginnings. I am glad to be a part of Shuchi's journey because we have been friends since college. She will undoubtedly make a good feature film with excellent international potential. Fazal added, "This creators lab was established with the goal of supporting emerging talent. In that regard, Girls Will Be Girls is the first step for us."
